As of October 11, we have room for about 10 more shooters. Please do not delay if you want to shoot! You can email your registration and pay by PayPal.  We will try to keep the count current.

We will have to mail your shirt as the order has been placed.
Dates: October 16 -17, 2010
Site: The address of the club is 26430 Mullinex Rd, Mt. Airy, MD 21771 just east of Damascus, MD.
Directions: See below or are available on the club web pages.
Rules: AAFTA rules will apply for PCP, Piston, and Hunter classes.
International rules will conform to those of the WFTF Core Rules at the time of the shoot.

Pistol FT rules and classes:
  1. Iron or 1X red dot sights will be one class; magnified sights up to 12X will be the other class.
  2. All pistols will have no more than 12FPE.
  3. Pistols may be supported only by one or two hands. Forearms must be unsupported.
  4. All shots will be standing unless otherwise designated. If otherwise designated, standing is always an option.
  5. Scoring will be 1 point for a "kill."
  6. Shooting coats may be worn as long as they provide no support for the arms or hands.
  7. Targets will be no more than 35yds.
Safety: AAFTA safety rules will be enforced, air rifles must chronograph at 20 ft. lbs. or less. (12fpe for International Classes and pistols)
Range: Practice range open October 14th and 15th - 8AM to 7PM and 7AM on match days.
Course of fire: 2 courses consisting of 60 shots per course.15 lanes per course - 2 targets per lane for a total of 120 shots for record. Timers used on all lanes.
Ties: Shoot-offs will determine position.
Divisions: Piston, PCP, Hunter, and International Piston and PCP. A separate match will be held for Pistol FT.
Teams: Four- or Five-person Teams with top four scores counting; 1st place only award ($20 fee to be collected prior to shooting).
Awards: 1st through 4th in PCP, Piston, Hunter, International PCP, and International Piston. 1st-2nd Offhand, Pistol Iron/Red dot, Pistol Scoped. High Senior (65+), High Lady, High Junior (15 max), 1st place teams.
Entry Fee: $90 per shooter -- limited to 90 shooters. After September 15, 2010, registration will be $105. Refunds only for family, illness, or work-related issues. Refunds after October 1 will be minus $25 but you will receive the shirt by mail. Juniors will be $50 and must be accompanied by an adult paying the full fee. Anyone wanting only a shirt and meals can choose the $25 value (add meals as desired).

Shirts: A stone-washed long-sleeved denim shirt with the AAFTA logo and match identification will be provided to all registrants. If registering after September 27, shirts will be mailed. Please select the desired size in the registration form below.

Meals: Lunch provided Sat. & Sun. for competitors. Guest meals are $10.
Beverages: Water will be available on courses, at registration, and sight-in. A free beverage will be provided with lunch. All other beverages & bottled water 50 cents.

Motels offering special rates for AAFTA (some rates may appear to be higher than those from Travelocity, etc. -- the cheapest rates are often no-cancellation, no-changes, pre-paid rates -- the following do not have those restrictions but may be a bit higher):
  • Hampton Inn Frederick has king bed suites or two queen beds for $109 plus tax per room per night including a hot and cold breakfast.  Phone 301 698-2500 for reservations. 
  • The Best Western Historic Frederick may be full.  Call and ask and ask for a discount -- there may be one available! The original rate for twin-double or King Junior Suite rooms for the Nationals was $79.99 plus tax per room, per night. (The regular rate for these rooms is $119.99!) A Deluxe Continental Breakfast is included. Phone 301 695-6200 for reservations and mention AAFTA or "Field target." .
At this time, the best prices are at the Days Inn Frederick ($63-82). The most convenient locations for getting back to the range will be places close to the intersection of I70 and I270 (as shown in the map above). There are many residence inn type places near there. We cannot recommend the Budget Inn/Sandra Lee Motel in Mt. Airy nor the Econolodge or Travelodge in Frederick.

If you like B&Bs, there is one in New Market, MD -- Founders Town and Country Inn ($115 - $135), 301 865-4339. Other B&Bs can be found here near Damascus, MD.

Local Attractions:
  • For more information on the Frederick area, the Frederick Tourism Council has lots of data on local attractions. For Civil War buffs, this area has numerous battlefields and museums.
  • A small amusement park, Adventure Park USA, is located in New Market, MD, and is fun for the family.
  • Washington, DC, is only about 35mi from the range.
  • Baltimore is about 45mi and offers excellent attractions.
Public Transportation Travel:
  • Baltimore Washington International (BWI - 40mi),
  • Washington National (DCA - 42mi), and
  • Washington Dulles (IAD - 46.4mi) are all convenient to Damascus, MD.

Trains can be taken to Baltimore or DC. There is no direct public transportation from there to the range, but you can take a train from DC to Frederick. 

Auto Travel:
  • The club's address for GPS coordinates is 26430 Mullinix Mill Rd., Mt Airy, Md. 21771.  Note that the "city" is Mt. Airy, not Damascus. Many GPSs will not find the address if you enter Damascus!
  • From BWI, we suggest this route.  It will avoid virtually all chance of congestion while adding only a few miles. This route can be useful for those coming from anywhere east to south of Baltimore.
  • From DCI (Dulles), there are not many options. If you want to avoid DC entirely, you can take this route (with a ferry crossing!) or this one that avoids the ferry.  The "normal" route uses almost al interstates but exposes one to possible congestion.
  • From DCA (Reagan/National), the most viable route is the George Washington Parkway.
In general:
  • From the east. We suggest using MD100 to I70 when possible to avoid the Baltimore beltway.
  • From the north, you can take I81, I83, or I95 to I70 to MD29 south.
  • From the south, I95 tends to be very congested as one nears DC. I suggest looking at routes similar to those for Dulles to the club as one nears DC.  US15 will cut across to Dulles from I95 and actually links directly into the route that avoids the ferry.
  • From the west, I70, I68, and I81. I70 may be somewhat congested from I81 to Frederick.  I81 has very heavy truck traffic to I70 but usually flows well. Once on I70, take that to MD29 south.

Signs will be posted for the "country" roads as you near the club. 

Camping: Camping will be available on the club grounds. No showers are available but indoor toilets are available. RVs may be parked in a designated area of the club grounds.
Compressed Air: Air will be provided via an industrial-sized tank compatible with SCUBA fill adapters. We encourage those driving to bring tanks. Fills up to 4500psi are available in Frederick at the Brass Anchor Scuba Center for $5.25 (519 East Church Street, Frederick, MD 21701 about 20mi from club).
